In this 10th episode of "The Ending Body Burnout Show," Filipa Bellette, co-founder of Chris and Filly Functional Medicine, shares her personal journey with emotional eating over the past 11 years. This episode is part of the celebrations for Natural Medicine Week, where Filipa proudly serves as an ambassador. Join us as we explore the complexities of emotional eating and the path to holistic health, integrative medicine, and natural healing.

Filly's Early Struggles with Emotional Eating

Filly's journey began with the belief that she was eating healthily, only to realize she was a sugar addict. This revelation was a turning point, as she discovered the foods she consumed were causing inflammation and could potentially lead to cancer. Determined to heal from body burnout, Filly embarked on a mission to overhaul her diet, focusing on clean, whole foods and fermented foods. However, this change was initially driven by fear rather than empowerment.

The Battle with Sugar Addiction

Despite her best efforts, Filly struggled with bingeing on sugar during weekends, often hiding her habits and experiencing guilt and shame. These feelings were exacerbated when she became a clinical nutritionist, a role that demanded a commitment to healthy living. The realization that "naughty" foods were harming her body led Filly to quit them cold turkey. This decision initially brought about feelings of deprivation and restriction, challenging her resolve.

Embracing Nourishment and Functional Medicine

A few years into her journey, Filly learned to appreciate nourishing her body with healthy foods. This shift coincided with her engagement in functional medicine lab work and protocols on herself, which played a significant role in addressing her emotional eating. This period marked a turning point, as Filly began to embrace a more balanced approach to nutrition and wellness.

Challenges During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges, as Filly experienced heartburn every time she ate, particularly with high-histamine foods. Despite the discomfort, she lacked the energy to adhere to a restricted diet again and instead managed the heartburn with natural supplements. This approach was a temporary solution, as Filly knew something deeper was amiss.

Uncovering Root Causes and Reprogramming the Mind

Determined to get to the root of her issues, Filly delved into deep inner work. She discovered a subtle lack of trust in her body, which was impacting her health. By reprogramming her brain and regulating her nervous system, Filly was able to alleviate the heartburn. This transformation allowed her to reintroduce trigger foods, like dairy, into her diet without experiencing major issues.

Achieving a Balanced Relationship with Food

Today, Filly enjoys a free and flowing relationship with food, trusting her body to digest any food she chooses without guilt or shame. This newfound freedom is a testament to the power of addressing root causes and embracing a holistic approach to health and wellness.
